Special Events

CT Broadcasting student Francis Lamlein contacted the Gallery on the Green in April writing:
" I am currently planning a news package for one of my final school assignments, and I thought this exhibit would make for a good feature story about local arts and culture in Connecticut. The package will be about a minute-and-a-half long video consisting of mostly b-roll and soundbites of interviews."

The 50 th Anniversary video captures the spirit and energy of many of the early members of the Canton Artists’ Guild. The detailed early memories of the late John Just Ellis were my inspiration to capture highlights of the Gallery’s history. It was further boosted by photographer Jeffrey Schlichter’s enthusiastic “Yes!” when he agreed to assist me by donating countless hours of his time filming and

editing. Thanks to Jeff for formatting the video for us to view on our website. Don’t miss the outtakes at the end of the 2nd half credits. – Shirley Mae Neu

Eight Voices: Discovery and Rediscovery
August 2-30, 2021

Exhibiting in the Program Room at the Simsbury Public Library are Susan Bradley, Donna Davis, Sheri Ellis, Renée Hughes, Donna Namnoum, Arleen Pomaski, Deborah Sacks and Peggy Steinway.

This group of accomplished local artists, most members of the Canton Artists’ Guild, have met regularly for the past few years, sharing articles, books, and other resources. During the pandemic they met virtually but are now back to meeting in person. This is their first show together.

The group inspires and supports each other through critiques, exercises and activities designed by members of the group to encourage exploration. Their work together has led them all to grow creatively through re-examining and building upon past work. They challenge each other to explore new media and styles, ranging from realism to abstraction. Included are paintings, drawings, prints, sculpture and ceramics.

The exhibit will be open to the public during library hours for the month of August.

Please join us for an Artist Talk given by Peggy Dembicer.

She will discuss methods used and give insight to her creative approach, motivation and inspiration for her work.
Peggy Dembicer has a solo show entitled, “Free Forms: Finding Repurpose.” She is a self-taught fiber and mixed media artist noted for intricate beaded tapestries, modern and colorful 2D and 3D paper weaving, as well as the creative application of recycled materials in framed and sculptural artworks. Fiber and beads are a consistent and cohesive element in her works, which contain countless thousands of beads and stitches. This exhibit focuses on her recent explorations using found objects and vintage items, giving new life to fractured mirrors, game boards, tee shirts, old books, commercial packaging and much more. Dembicer exhibits regularly as a member of Connecticut Women Artists, Silvermine Art Guild, Canton Artists’ Guild, Art League of New Britain, West Hartford Art League and Saatchiart.com.
