The Gallery on the Green opened its doors in 1960 becoming one of Connecticut’s longest running artists cooperatives. Incorporated as the Canton Artists Guild, the Gallery has offered artists and those interested in the arts a varied program of cultural activities. For artists, the Gallery on the Green is a place to exhibit and sell work. For the public, it is unique atmosphere to appreciate and acquire fine art.

We welcome all who would like to become part of our cooperative community. The Canton Artists’ Guild is a diverse group of people and we provide a forum for exhibiting and see art, meeting artists and networking. Come see what we are all about. -Invitations to gallery show receptions and other events -Receive a prospectus to the yearly Open Juried Show -Receive our Newsletters -See/participate in member and group shows -Submit proposals for a solo show -Participate in up to an average of 7 shows a year
There are two general types of membership: Artist Membership and Non-Artist/Donor Membership.
Canton Artists’ Guild Submission for Membership Guidelines
The Canton Artists’ Guild’s Board of Directors meets the second Thursday of each month at 5 p.m. Artists interested in membership should contact Shirley Mae Neu at neuartist4@comcast.net to make arrangements to drop off art work.The Board asks artists to submit 3-5 "show ready" pieces with an artist's statement and resume. Each piece should be labeled on the back with your name and all contact information
including mailing address.
What is "Show Ready"? This is our Conditions for Showing Statement:
A professional presentation of artwork is expected. Entries must be signed, dry and exhibit ready. Works should be suitably framed and in good repair. Works must be wired and ready for hanging. Metal picture frames should be fitted with stable clips that have the picture-hanging wire attached. Razor tooth hangers, push-in clips and loops, Swiss corner clips or similar “glass without frame” systems are not acceptable for hanging. For unframed canvases, the sides of the canvas and staples must be painted.
After the Board review, work will be placed in the upstairs storage racks. Artist can pick up Friday – Sunday, 1-5 p.m. Potential members will be notified regarding the Board’s decision.
Artist Memberships are in various categories:
Artist Volunteer: $100 a year plus 28 hours of volunteer work required
Artist Volunteer Senior (over 65 years): $75 a year plus 28 hours of volunteer work required
Artist Non-Volunteer: $225 a year -Artist Non-Volunteer Senior (over 65 years): $175 a year
University Student: $50 plus 12 hours of volunteer work required
High School Student: Free plus 12 hours of volunteer work required

Non-Artist/Donor Memberships are in various categories which are noted below.
These are tax deductible to the extent of the law, as we are a non-profit organization. There is no membership form as such for this category; simply send a check, with your contact information, to the Treasurer, Canton Artists’ Guild, Box 281, Canton, CT 06019 The Non-Artist/Donor Membership categories are: -Contributing: $30 a year -Sustaining: $40 a year -Patron: $65 a year -Capital Fund: $100 a year -Angel: $250 a year.
