The battle between Nature and the man-made world around us is fascinating. Weeds in an abandoned building, broken mechanical things and forgotten handwritten papers all inspire my work.
My artwork starts with photos and papers, many from the 1800s, which are made into semi-transparent gel transfers layers. These layers are glued, one over another, and painted to meld the images of people and places into imaginary cityscapes, landscapes and portraits.
That is what I do: tell the stories, real or imagined, of the places and faces that appear in my works. The old looks new and new old, with colors that can be just a bit unusual or straight out of fantasy land. Itís all real or is it?
